An invite to the 7th BRAZ-TESOL Teacher Development Seminar SIG
Firstly, BRAZ-TESOL is the largest ELT association in Brazil and its “SIGs” attempt to encourage professional development and the exchange of ideas within a specialist area of English Language Teaching.
Secondly, I would like to invite you all to the 7th BRAZ-TESOL Teacher Development Seminar which will take place in April (more information below).
Marcela Cintra and Sérgio Pantoja, the plenary speakers, will be talking about “Teacher’s Continuous Professional Development: a conundrum?” & “The importance of language awareness in teachers’ continuing professional development” respectively.
My session will be carried out at 3 pm on “How to provide students with feedback”. It is an informative session for “new” teachers and a refresher for more experienced ones. This session discusses the use of feedback and how to provide it.
The rough agenda includes:
– How important Feedback is;
– A brief Brainstorming on how and when to give feedback to students
– Types of feedback to be given + steps of the lesson (extra ideas/tasks on how to provide students with feedback / and when);
This session will also recap three of my Feb (2017) post (it can be found on https://richmondshare.com.br/how-to-provide-students-with-feedback/).
- The teacher should make notes in his/her personal notebook while students are producing / orally contributing to tasks proposed.

- What will you take notes on?
- How will you organise your notebook and after that, your board?
- What types of feedback are there?
- Which one should you use and when?
- The teacher should focus on mistakes that are recurrent.

- Mistakes x Errors?
- How do you recognise recurrent mistakes?
- What do you do to help the learner who is committing those?
- The teacher should coach students within the same group/level so s/he will be able to provide feedback to their peers later.

- With what group level can you do that?
- How do you implement this?
It is known that feedback is crucial to professional growth and development in general, imagine how helpful it can (and should) be to our student’s performance improvement. Feedback makes us keep going, it gives us a sense of purpose, it unlocks changes and subsequently innovation and it prevents us from being always “the same”.

Beatriz holds the Cambridge Train the Trainer and the DELTA Mods II and III(Teaching Exam Lessons). She has a Licentiate’s degree in English Language from PUC SP (2007). CPE level of proficiency and she has been teaching for 15 years. She is an Academic and Pedagogic Coordinator. She is currently doing a Company Management MBA at FGV.
